  • Welcome!

Thank you for visiting my new blog site. Web site...Blog site, what's the difference? Well, think of the website as a portfolio and the blog as a living, breathing, visual conversation about the latest works from Roeckell Photography.

I am a photographer, located in Barrington, Illinois, specializing in contemporary lifestyle and portrait photography of children, babies, newborns, maternity and families. I am also available for commercial work and travel. Much of my work is done on location utilizing the beautiful hues of natural light, however I do have a large studio in my home.

I believe the secret to amazing photos that speak to your heart is allowing the children to be at ease. I let them be themselves in a fun environment were they are free to run, play, snuggle and once in a while stop to pose. My goal is that the images you receive will reveal the true spirit that makes your loved ones unique.

Sit back, relax and enjoy scrolling through the images. Leave a comment! I enjoy seeing what you have to say. Feel free to send me an email or visit me on facebook if you have any questions.

It's great to see you here. Thanks for supporting Roeckell Photography.

Happy Merry Everything! Barrington Family Photographer

First and foremost, Thank You for your support of Roeckell Photography in 2011.   It has been a wonderful year, busy right up to Christmas week. I’ve worked with Beautiful families and children. Together we have had a blast creating wonderful lasting memories.

Keep an eye on the Blog for posts of many of the sessions that I have not posted so they would not spoil holiday surprises. I am very excited about 2012 and all that is to come.  My first session of 2012 is scheduled for a newborn that is making his/her way into the world any day now. These sessions make me giddy. There is nothing more special than a newborn baby.  Actually every age has it’s fun and I am so lucky to get to do what I love and have fun doing it! Thanks again!!

Time between Christmas and the New Year is always lively in our home. I am blessed with time to be home with my four kids.  Their ages are more an issue this year than in the past. For many years everything was a group gift or toy that we all shared in.  Now my teenagers are separating from their younger sister and brother. The growing pains can be LOUD.

Even the Christmas card was harder to accomplish this year. Getting them all together with their busy schedules, showered, dressed AND in a good mood at the same time was almost impossible.  I waited too long again and by the week before Christmas when I still didn’t have a card the only color option the sky provided was grey or brown. We pulled it off but I must admit that they gave me four minutes to accomplish my picture taking and it cost me $50 worth of burgers and fries at Five Guys.  I’ve created MONSTERS. Good monsters though!

Happy Holidays and Stay in touch in the new year!

Sally

Fall Mini-Session and Garden Event

In just two weeks Alison Hoffman of Every Green Plant and I will be hosting our second Twice as Nice event.  This time of year we are featuring Alison’s plant division exchange.  If you love gardening and want to share the love don’t miss this opportunity to trade and share your fall divisions.  If you are like I was before I was enlightened by Alison’s beautiful gardening skills and you have no idea how to divide a plant then this is your opportunity to learn, enjoy and go home ready to create beautiful fall flower beds.

While Alison is busy with gardening I am going to be busy taking portraits in the gardens.  I am offering FREE (yep, I said it, FREE) mini portrait sessions in the garden all day.  If you want meet me and see what I offer come on by on October 9th.  R.S.V.P. ahead of time if you would like to lock in a desired time slot.  Otherwise, come on by.  I will be snapping images all day.

I’m Feeling Sleepy…Newborn love…Barrington, IL Newborn Photographer

Last week I was traveling for work and although away from my studio and family who I missed madly my last stop was time well spent.  I participated in a two day workshop honing my skills as a newborn photographer.  My favorite part of what I do is that I get to continue learning every day.  The props available to us during these newborn shoots were darling.  It was seriously like being a kid in a candy store! I am stocking my prop shelves with several new goodies that I can’t wait to share. Here are just a few images I captured. Many more to come when I am caught up on editing. I could photograph newborns every day.  As a Mom of 4 I know what a gift these images are because they grow up way too fast.

Just a note: The hanging shot may look dangerous but it is completely safe.  It is created with much assistance and careful watchful eyes.

Welcome Little Sister Barrington children photography

Three beautiful boys.  Khakis, bluejeans and bugs and a rockin’ tree fort. Along comes baby number four and SHE is sweet and beautiful. Even with three brothers to chase I think she will eventually sport a tutu once in awhile.  I’m sure little miss R will have a few things to say about the tree fort decoration.

Here are just a few more shots from the maternity session. Once little brother, now BIG brother was very interested in the smarties, they are one of my most vital studio tools!

Babies Big Sisters and Cousins Barrington Children and Family Photography

These girls, cousins and sisters have been waiting patiently to see their images.  Okay they don’t care but Mom and Grandma have been waiting waiting.   I hope they are as pleased with these little faces as I am.  It was actually a colorful day but while editing these photos their deep emotive eyes just screamed timeless black and white.  Mom can choose from all the color portraits or the black and white so not to worry.
